WHAT ARE ESSENTIAL OILS & HOW DO THEY WORK?
.01 Essential Oils are the aromatic, volatile liquids distilled from plants. The oil can be obtained from the roots, seeds, shrubs, flowers, leaves and trees and bring health and healing to the body. The chemistry is extremely complex and may consist of hundreds of different and unique chemical compounds.
.02 OIls were mankind’s first means of wellness and are in fact mentioned all throughout scripture. The oils are very powerful which is why they are able to reach every part of our bodies on a cellular level within minutes of using or breathing in an oil. They can be found in every organ in your body!
.03 The fragrance of the oils work in the limbic system in the brain where emotions are stored and can help relax and clean the mind as well as release emotional trauma (this emotional stuff if huge for our overall wellness!). They can have profound physiological and psychological effects as well!
.04 They can reach every cell in your body within 20 minutes when applied topically to the body, can eliminate toxins in your body, regenerate DNA, pass the “blood-brain” barrier, work on emotions via the limbic system of your brain when inhaled, release emotional trauma, relax and clear the mind, transport nutrients to starving human cells, act as powerful antioxidants to help the body rid itself of free radicals, remove toxins in the air, and increase ozone and negative ions in the area which inhibit bacterial growth.
WAYS TO USE ESSENTIAL OILS
There are 3 ways to use essential oils, aromatically, topically and dietary.
Be sure to look closely at the label of the oil that you are using. The back of each bottle lists whether the oil is recommended for aromatic, topical, or dietary use, along with giving dilution information.
AROMATIC
Aromatic = breathe it in. This can either be through a diffuser (every home NEEDS at least one diffuser) or by just straight up opening the bottle and inhaling it. The aroma of essential oils can positively impact our overall well-being, & purify the air naturally.
Pretty easy, right? A diffuser is a little gadget that you put water and essential oils in to make your house smell amazing without toxic chemicals and scary things like formaldehyde. Once you diffuse, you never quit and that's a fact. Diffusers use 2-4 drops of Essentail Oil per 100ml of water.
TOPICAL
Topical = on your skin. They are absorbed rapidly by the skin because of their molecular structure and they take mere seconds to hit the bloodstream when applied topically. Drop 2-3 drops of essential oil in the palm of your hand & apply directly onto the skin with or without the use of a carrier oil (coconut oil, sweet almond oil, grapeseed oil, YL's V-6 vegetable oil complex)
Key points of application on the body are: crown of the head, temples, behind ears, neck, upper back, abdomen, over vital organs, soles and top of feet, ankles.
DIETARY
Dietary = Food flavouring
Another distinction to make is whether an oil is considered safe for dietary use. This can be found on the front of the bottle label. The oils that are labeled as Plus (+) have been approved for food flavouring.

When you utilize these essential oils in the kitchen, you’ll get a brighter flavour than dried herbs without having to have fresh herbs on hand. If you want a lighter flavour in your dishes, dip a toothpick in the oil and swirl it in your preparations.
